Community Development Working Group

The Community Development Working Group has the aspiration for the equitable provision and quality of facilities in the two villages, in particular with the natural community hubs, community gardens, allotments and parks.

Hasland Hub and Barnes Park Pavilion

GHBL has established office facilities and access to meeting spaces in Grassmoor Community Centre (GCC) and Hasland Working Men's Club in the Hub @ the Club, Hasland's Community Hub. Access to this facility is via the Community Access door on Hasland Road, near the bus stops. Support staff work part time so check their availability before visiting. GHBL Partnership is working closely with Grassmoor, Hasland and Winsick Parish Council and other stakeholders to develop a brand new Sport, Leisure and Community Hub in Barnes Park, Grassmoor. This facility will be a great asset to the village and provide a much improved offer for sport and leisure activities in the future.

Defibrillators Defibrillator in Eastwood Park

The group has overseen the installation of defibrillators at Grassmoor Methodist Church and in Hasland at the Working Men's Club, Eastwood Park Sports Pavilion, Hasland Resource Centre and Barnes Park Community Pavilion at Grassmoor.  Staff and volunteers have been trained to use these by East Midlands Ambulance Service and our thanks go to the organisations hosting the units. The group is now looking into the possibility of installing more units in the villages and identifying suitable locations for these.

Spare Thyme Community Allotment

The Spare Thyme community allotment project at Mill Lane allotments, Grassmoor aims to bring together young and old, male and female, novice and experienced, skilled and unskilled people on a shared allotment which is managed and harvested on a cooperative basis.

2021 will be our third season and we are looking for likeminded people to join in and enjoy the satisfaction of growing, harvesting and eating our own food.

We are well settled on plot 26.  We have a tool shed, and a new potting shed and a rotovator.  In 2020 we have expanded our horizons by taking on a second plot, number 27 just next door.

We hope to bring more people from the community of Grassland Hasmoor Big Local together to learn new skills and to benefit psychologically, physically and socially.

   Mill Lane Allotments

In Grassmoor, Mill Lane Allotments were assisted to have running water and publicly accessible toilets installed (open to the public during events) to support the allotments to engage with the local community. The Allotments activities have grown and now incorporates 2 plots on behalf of Spare Thyme Allotments. The Allotments held their first Open Day in 2015 and have held community events on a regular basis from then on. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 lockdown and continuing restrictions the summer Open day 2020 & 2021 had to be cancelled. The Allotments society hosted the GHBL Project for a Santa's Grotto event that went spectacularly well.  For more information please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Eastwood Skate Park

Another exciting development that the group has delivered is Eastwood Park’s Skate Wheels Park with funding support from Viridor and GHBL, and working in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council. This facility has been sought after for many years and the young people of Hasland were instrumental in the design and decision making for this project. Opened in 2017 it has already become a well-used facility that receives great feedback from its users.
